In 1937, Theodor Seuss Geisel published his first book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street. Filled with inventive verses and fantastic creatures, later efforts like The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas quickly became fixtures in American popular culture. Dr Seuss won a Pulitzer Prize in 1984 for entertaining and educating Americans for nearly 50 years.
