I play Coviello, servant to Cockamuccio Capitano. (He's the big guy in this picture!) Every time he comes on, I announce him, strike a "ballet 2nd position" pose and he passes me and I trip him with a "4th position". If you notice at the bottom of the picture, my foot is out and his is wrapped over my arch as he trips over my foot. |
Here, the Capitano Cockamuccio fights a dual with Arlequino for the hand of the fair Isabella. I'm on the bench behind. |
I also play a puppeteer whose called upon to put on a puppet show for entertainment at a wedding. The puppet show is called "Two Nasty Old Men". |
I am addressing the wedding guests, in a very thick Italian accent, and telling them of this "excellent commedia" of a puppet show I am about to put on for them. |
During the puppet show, Pantalone discovers that the puppet that looks like him is going to reveal that he's in love with Isabella, the girl he raised as his daughter. |
When Pantalone discovers the secret will be revealed, he abrubptly stops the puppet show and the puppeteer and assistant are furious. |
The Capitano Cockamuccio prepares me, Coviello, with his plan for me to distract Pantalone while he makes off with Isabella. |
"And what about me? What am I to do with that old man in the bedchamber, eh? I don't think I can offer what he's after!!!" |
The Capitano is having me watch while he istructs me on the "ways of suduction". He doesn't know that's his wife he's wooing. |
While I'm waiting in the hall, Columbina see's me and mistakes me for her intended, Arlequino, because she knows he's posing as a bogus bride too. |
After the Capitano is scared off by his wife, Coviello butters up Pantalone to enter the bedchamber where his wife is dressed as a bogus bride. But he doesn't know that. |
"I'm a very helpful fellow. I fawn, I grovel, I cringe, I wallow, I creep, I bow, I stoop, I skulk, I crawl to a magnificent master like yourself." |
